Rob Does Words

About the writing

This website acts as a showcase, or portfolio, of sorts for the different stories I have written over the years. They are broken into the following, broad, categories:

Longform pieces: Probably the least common of what you'll find here. I have more than a dozen stories over 50,000 words, which I am actively working on writing and editing. My goal is to have one or two of these published (in some form) each year. These will likely be published as a single piece, probably for download.

Serialised stories: These will be stories of indeterminate length, published in sections on a regular schedule - imagine them like a season of a TV show. As each comes to an end, that slot will be taken by another story to be serialised. As further narratives are finished, the various stories could come back for another "season."

Shortform pieces: These are the bread and butter of my writing. Every other type of story published here started from a shortform piece and was either expanded into the longer piece, or conjoined with others to make the longer piece. Because of this, some of these may disappear from the site as I work, or rework, them into something else. Check the Author's Notes at the bottom of each to find out if I have my eye on any particular one.

Fanfiction: Like all the greats, I do have some work that is best described as fan fiction. I have these published over at AO3 and links to them are on the "Fanfiction" page. Like the vast majority of my work, there is no sexual content in any of these pieces.

Non-fiction work: I have a bucket of notes for various things that I feel strongly about. While I do like the idea of publishing non-fiction essays (or insert your favoured synonym here), I have yet to finish any to a level worth a readers time. I guess this is a watch this space? If a "Essay" or "Opinions" page appears one day, I've got something for you.

Everything else: I don't solely write prose. I have at least one project in almost every media that could use a fictional narrative: Comics, video, games. I work on these pieces as much as I can in between everything else, which means they will release slower than everything else. They typically require collaborators as well, which also limits how and when I can release them. I will aim to have something to peruse for these projects sooner rather than later, and that is what the "Other Projects" page is for.
